Greg Broderick crowned Irish National Show Jumping Champion

Tipperary’s Greg Broderick is the new Irish National Show Jumping Champion, after he was crowned winner of the 2017 TRM/Horseware New Heights Champions Series following the final round at Barnadown in Co Wexford, which took place on Saturday 2nd September 2017.

Rio Olympian Broderick and the Molly Tracy-owned 10-year-old gelding Chinook, topped the final league table after a season which included victories at Ballinasloe, Cork and Balmoral. Nicholas Butler and Vimminka meanwhile finished as runners-up on the league table.

The final leg at Barnadown was won by Waterford army rider Capt. Geoff Curran. He partnered the Minister For Defense-owned Dollanstown to the only double clear of the competition. Jenny Rankin and Baccarat produced the fastest four fault score of the jump-off (42.53) to finish as runners-up, while Greg Broderick and Chinook finished third on the day with one fence down in 42.57.

Barnadown hosted the final round of the TRM/Horseware New Heights Champions Series, which has visited nine venues around Ireland since the start of the season and is a joint venture between Showjumping Ireland and Horse Sport Ireland.

Horse Sport Ireland CEO Ronan Murphy along with sponsors TRM/Horseware presented a cheque for €2,000 to the leading rider Greg Broderick. Additional prizes were also awarded to the three highest placed Irish bred horses.
Hugh Fitzpatrick, breeder of Erne Ladygoldilocks took the top prize of €3,000, with Ray O’Reilly, breeder of Hilton CMS Paparazzi collecting €2,000 and RP Kelly, breeder of Aldaluck taking home €1,000.

The lucrative New Heights Champions Series boasted an overall prize fund of over €110,000 and started at Louth County Show back in April.

Top class Show Jumping continues at Barnadown tomorrow (Sunday), with one of the world’s richest young horse competitions – The Irish Breeders Classic, which carries a prize fund of €36,000. Future champions will also be on offer at The Irish Breeders Classic as the Elite Foal Auction takes place at the Wexford venue.
