Tipperary based Greg Broderick got the defence of his Horseware/ TRM National Grand Prix title off to the perfect start at the Horseware Louth County Show this afternoon with a win in the opening leg of the League.

Broderick claims – The annual curtain raiser to the outdoor season, today’s Grand Prix provided a competitive opening leg to the jointly sponsored National Grand Prix League with 100 combinations tackling Course Designer Tom Holden’s track ahead of tomorrow’s opening leg of the TRM/Horseware Premier Series.

Twelve competitors had clear rounds to put them through to the jump off. Ā Partnering the Noel Cawley owned Chestnut mare Rincarina, a ten year old by Cruising, Ā Broderick made no mistake in both rounds to run out an easy winner stopping the clock in an impressive time of 40.89.

Alexander Butler finished just behind Broderick on 41.34 to claim second place aboard Will Wimble, Harold McGahern’s gelding sired by Touchdown.

Tomorrow sees the opening round of the 2014 Horseware/ TRM Premier Series where there are 61 combinations set to tackle the track.Ā Ā  Other highlights at the show include the first Finals in the Irish Sporthorse Studbook Showjumping Series for 5, 6 and 7 Year Olds.
