TRM NEWS – Winter 2006

TRM RENEWS SPONSORSHIP OF NATIONAL INTERMEDIAIRE II CHAMPIONSHIP

TRM has renewed support for the National Intermediaire II Championship, which has its high profile final at the British Dressage National Championships.

Confirming ongoing support for the TRM Intermediaire II Championship that was won in 2006 by Jodie Lister and Nicky, TRM’s Vice President North America, Northern Europe Tom Barrett said, “We were delighted with the enthusiastic and very positive response our support of British Dressage attracted and it was an easy decision to renew our sponsorship for 2007.

We are looking forward to developing the new contacts we’ve made and enhancing recognition of the TRM brand and product range amongst even more dressage owners, trainers and competitors.”

TRM “TRAINER OF THE QUARTER”

For the second time in 2006 a horse from the Brian Meehan stable gave the trainer a success on one of the sports’ elite days, when Red Rocks landed the John Deere Breeders’ Cup Turf at Churchill Downs of November 4th 2006. In association with Trainer Magazine the official publication of the European Trainers Federation he was named Trainer of the Quarter in the Winter 06 publication.

In the race itself Frankie Dettori gave a faultless tactical ride to Red Rocks, who looked trained to the minute.  In itself this was a notable feat for a horse that had run six times since it’s appearance in April, including four competitive Group contests.

The mile and a half event was run at a faster pace than many anticipated, the winning time being less than one second off the course record.

The race contained two European classic winners, and the leading US trained hope English Channel, who was the favorite.

Red Rocks’ 2007 campaign will be aimed around challenges at the Sheema Classic on Dubai World Cup day in March, and a repeat bid in the Breeders’ Cup Turf.

TRM HEADS WEST

TRM have announced a sponsorship deal with leading Italian reining champion Stefano Massignan.  Stefano a former World Reining Cup gold medal winner is based at the renowned Arcese Quarter Horse Farm.

Reining originated from the moves that cattle horses adopt when on the job.  It was first recognized as a sport in 1949 by the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA), the world’s largest equestrian organization currently counting more than 320,000 members and some four million horses.

Reining as a sport is designed to show the athletic ability of ranch type horse in the confines of a show arena.  Contestants are required to run one of ten approved patterns divided into seven or eight manoeuvres, including small slow circles, large fast circles, flying lead changes, 360 degree spins done in place and the exciting sliding stops that are the hallmark of the reining horse as demonstrated by Roberto Massignan above.

Reining was approved as an FEI discipline in 2000 and covers horses of 6 years and over.  The number of international competitions organized throughout the world is growing at a healthy pace from three in 2001 to 41 in 2006 with events organized in the USA, Canada, Italy, France, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Israel and Brazil.

TRM HELPS BREAK WORLD RECORD

The trotting filly Vanessa Boko, who was reared on TRM’s Calphormin, has broken the World Record for 2 year olds.  Adverse weather conditions did not prevent the filly from winning the race in a record time of 1.14.8 minutes over a distance of 1640 meters.

Vanessa Boko was bred by the well known Dutch breeder John Bootsman.  Mr.Bootsman the owner of Boko Stables is a leading figure in the world of trotting and lives on his large breeding farm outside Stockholm.  He also has a breeding operation in Holland.

Boko stables were highly successful at the Elite sales auction in Sweden last year with the top horse Yukon Boko selling for 60,000 euro.
